Background

Popularity of the Gold Somalia Elephant CoinPaying tribute to one of the most majestic animals in the world, the Somalia Gold Elephant coins capture a similar level of eye-catching prestige. The 2019 edition from the African Wildlife series is made from beautiful .9999 fine Gold. It is well known that African elephants are the biggest, most substantial land animals in the world. As an adult, this dignified creature has no natural enemies.
One of the reasons for its popularity is the design, which changes on an annual basis. Every year, a new representation of elephants in their natural habitat is used. The Gold Elephant is one of the only coins in the world to feature updated artwork each year. These Gold Somalian Elephant coins were first struck in 2004, taking over production from Zambia.

African Wildlife Somalia Elephant Gold CoinEach African Wildlife Somalia Elephant Gold coin is guaranteed for purity and composition by the Bavarian State Mint in Germany. It is one of several mints located within the country, officially owned by the Free State of Bavaria. The Bavarian State Mint was established more than 850 years ago.
The reverse highlights the distinguished elephant on a natural African landscape representative of the savannas of the Serengeti. The terms “Elephant,” “African Wildlife” and “1 oz Au 999.9” are also part of the design. The obverse is struck with the national seal of Somalia. Coins produced prior to 2004 featured the Zambian national seal, adding another reason collectors are so intrigued by these handsome coins. This coat of arms is comprised of a star hovering over horizontal lines across Somalia’s heraldic shield. Leopards flank the shield, point upward, alongside palm leaves.

While the 2019 Somalia Gold Elephant is not legal tender in the country of issuance, a face value appears on the reverse.
